Personal History:

To give a brief bit of context - capitalist hellscape Ul'dah and particularly its upper echelons have previously had a whole mixed bag of reactions to imperialist hellscape Garlemand especially during 1.0 content (including some being pro-annexation!) Some of Pirinja's more distant relatives were, unfortunately, of this latter group, especially when Garlemand had only been really establishing itself as a threat. Thus, a more disliked and "expendable" member of the family - Pirinja's grandfather - was sent with his immediate family to Bozja in southern Ilsaberd to try to forge economic connections with the burgeoning empire.

Long story short, her grandfather saw how Garlemand was truly taking power and stopped cooperating, despite increasing pressure from the rest of the family. At one point, they even sent a young urchin plucked off the streets to join him as a "protégé" - if nothing else in the hopes of getting something useful out of someone. Unfortunately for them, the young man ended up siding with Peryn's grandfather. Giving it up as a bad job, the family cut the lot of them off - both contact and finances, stranding them all in Bozja just as it was fully falling to imperial rule. They ended up settling into their life there well enough though, with the young man becoming the protégé of Pirinja's grandfather in truth, and even falling in love with his daughter and starting a family.

They first had a son, Pavinja, and several years later a daughter, Pirinja. They lived in a small community not too far from Martrvje, a Bozjan port city and one of its largest communities. Life - while far from ideal - was stable for the family for many years, with Pirinja's father working as a trader, and her mother as a healer. However, when Pirinja was roughly six years old, her mother and Pavinja (who'd barely turned sixteen) were both conscripted owing to their skills in conjury - a skill she'd later inherit herself.

The disappearance of her mother and brother galvanized Pirinja's father. What originally started as desperate rumor-brokering for news about his wife and son soon turned into espionage and logistics management for local pockets of the Bozjan Resistance. While he did not regret his decisions in the slightest, he did recognize the danger, and thus endeavored to do all he could to keep his daughter uninvolved and unaware.

Despite his best efforts though, her father knew it was only a matter of time until the danger would be too great. And that time came a couple of years after the Calamity, just after Pirinja turned sixteen. Panju Manju finally managed to make contact with his wife, and the two of them started throwing all of their efforts into getting their children out of Garlean territory entirely. This was complicated by the fact that Pavinja and her mother had been separated, meaning the plan had to be ready to set in motion at any time. And come that time eventually did.

Pirinja remembers little of that time aside from a confusing and cryptic but no less heartfelt goodbye to her father and grandfather, then a whirlwind of transports and checkpoints and staying hidden. There was at least a couple near misses with Garlean forces, and between that and the farewell he gave her, it didn't take her long to start connecting the dots. Some pointed questioning at her smugglers was all it took to confirm her suspicions. Not that knowing was much help - it was just another upheaval in what amounted to the complete overturning of life as she knew it thus far.

The parents' plan originally had been for Pirinja to meet up with her brother in Thavnair, and from there the siblings would go to Eorzea. However, Pavinja's escape from Garlean territory was more complex and dangerous - he was deserting, after all, and Garlemand did not take kindly to deserters. The extra time that his delays and detours cost him meant that he arrived at Thavnair after Pirinja's group had already given up and proceeded without him. Not that she knew either way, because Pavinja's escape had been kept secret from her as well, so that she couldn't give him away if she were caught by Garlean forces.

Pirinja arrived at Eorzea's shores, confused and disoriented, and made her way to Gridania to try to make a fresh start for herself. She was accompanied by one of her father's allies, Sigeric, who'd helped smuggle her out of Garlean territory and opted to stay with her when they weren't able to locate Pavinja in Thavnair. She ended up using a false name - Peryn - in an attempt to protect herself and her family, and took up archery for self-defense.

It was around this time that she started to discover an odd new... talent, she'd started to display, upon arriving at Eorzea's shores. It started manifesting initially as what appeared to be aether sickness, along with brief bits and flashes of things that had been. However she also found that odd effects seemed to happen when she spoke - especially if she were telling stories or sharing experiences. Simply put, her words seemed to communicate much more than the words themselves should have been able to do - imparting images and impressions onto the listener.

It was this which brought her to the attention of the Scions of the Seventh Dawn, who - after looking at all of her collective symptoms - determined that this was very likely a manifestation of the Echo, blessing of the Mothercrystal Hydaelyn. They offered her support in exchange for joining their ranks, and slightly desperate for more stability in her new situation, Peryn accepted.

I've made the joke that I'm going to be making two major storylines for Peryn and Pavinja, one where he rejoins her midgame and another that is basically just a (Yakety Sax noises) train of barely not meeting each other up through ShB at least.

SO... here's where I'm gonna be keeping all of my excess of notes for that. And they're mostly gonna be Pavin-centric at least initially because Peryn's storyline is going to be mostly the same. They're both Echoblessed, but like (ShB spoilers) she's the one with the soul that is split with Ardbert's/that Emet-Selch is interested in during ShB and whatnot.

So yeah.
